Outreach for Our Migrant Worker Community with Our Migrant Guests
Sometimes, we get feedback from people living in Little India about migrant workers visiting the precinct on Sundays. They share that some workers loiter or rest around the residential areas.
We understand some of these concerns. Singapore Ministry of Manpower and partners have been building more recreational centres for our migrant workers near their dorms. At the same time, we understand that some workers also wish to visit Little India on their day off after a tiring week of work.
Therefore, we have been working hard on the ground on a community approach, so residents and our migrant guest workers can enjoy Little India harmoniously.
We have been working with local partners, like Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre, Migrant Workers Centre Singapore, The Salvation Army Singapore, Singapore Red Cross, Angullia Mosque, Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple Singapore, Tekka Residents' Committee, ACE Group, Singtel and others to engage our migrant guest workers on Sunday.
Yesterday, our friends from Singapore Police Force organized a community outreach for our migrant worker community, to guide them on safety, security, social norms, scams, financial planning, health and wellness and other issues related to their well-being.
Please ping me if you'd like to join me and my team in this important work, to build a more harmonious community, and to recognize, honour and support our migrant worker community.
